Microsoft Launches New Data Analytics Tool

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced his hopes of creating a data platform, and his first offerings include SQL Server 2014, Analytics Platform System, and Azure Intelligent Systems Service. SQL Server 2014 was launched last Tuesday, a tool with notable features like in-memory processing and Azure connectivity.

“Every aspect of Microsoft’s business has been fundamentally transformed because of data,” Nadella said at a presentation in San Francisco last week. “To be able to truly benefit from this platform, you need to have a data culture inside of your organization.”

“As Twitter has grown into a platform that delivers more than 500 million Tweets per day, Gnip has played a crucial role in collecting and digesting our public data and delivering the most essential Tweets to partners,” wrote Twitter Vice President of Global Development & Platform Jana Messerschmidt in .

Google BigQuery Analytics Tool Offers More Capacity for Less MoneyAnalytics tools have been big in the news so far this year, and the latest to make a newsworthy update is the Google BigQuery tool. Google announced this week that it’s cutting BigQuery’s cost by up to 85 percent and adding a greater capacity for analyzing data. Where it was once able to run through 1,000 rows of data in near real time, it will now be able to process 100,000 rows per second for just $5 a terabyte. The change will make it a major competitor for other analytics tools such as Amazon Kinesis.
